What is Electrolysis hair removal?
Electrolysis is the only permanent method of hair removal approved by the British Medical Association.
Electrolysis is a safe, proven, effective and permanent method of removing unwanted hair growth. It is the only method that can successfully treat all skin types and hair colours, including red and white hairs.
All methods of electrolysis are available, including Galvanic, Short-wave Diathermy (Thermolysis) and Blend.
How does Electrolysis work?
A fine probe, which is the size of the hair to be treated, is inserted into an opening, called the follicle.
A small amount of current is then applied, which is dependent on which method has been used, either heat, a chemical reaction, or a combination of both.
This is to target the dermal papilla which feeds and makes the hair grow.
The hair is removed after treatment with no traction
As hair regrows after treatment, it becomes progressively finer and requires longer intervals between each subsequent treatment.
Hair requires repeated treatments before the hair is destroyed. Each client requires varying different treatment.

I have a VTCT Level 3 qualification in Epilation and in Anatomy and Physiology. I have completed all of my training on a one to one basis with Hazel Critchlow, who has over 25 years of experience as lecturing across the country and working for Sterex Electrolysis LTD. Hazel is also an active member of the British Institute and Association of Electrolysis.
I have experience working with clients, including:

- Transgender clients
- Male clients, such as shaping the beard line and eyebrows
I also specialise in various other areas of the body.

The history of Electrolysis
Electrolysis was first invented by Dr. Charles E. Michel for ingrowing eyelashes in 1875, using the Galvanic current, which causes a chemical reaction to destroy the hair.
In 1916, Professor Paul N. Kree developed the multiple needle technique which allowed for more hairs to be treated at one time.
In 1924, Dr. Henri Bordier was the first to use diathermy, which is the most common method used today. It’s also commonly called Thermolysis and the process uses a heat reaction to destroy the hair.
In 1945, Arthur Ralph Henkel and Henri E. St. Pierre applied for a patent for the first blend machine, which combines both the Galvanic and Thermolysis current.
Finally, in 1987, Sterex launched their blend machine for British Electrolysists.
